Tips for Spending Less on Health Insurance and Medical Costs

If the high cost of medical coverage and health insurance has you down, remember that there are a number of ways to keep those expenses down. By practicing some common sense techniques and using every resource available to you, it’s possible to make a significant dent in your expenses for medical coverage. In the long run, these will save you money and keep your health insurance costs down.

Prescription Drug Plans

Most health insurance plans will offer some type of prescription drug plan. While these will help getyou discounts for the medicine you need, you may be able to save even more. First find out if your medicine is offered in a generic compound. Name brand medicines are inherently more expensive and generics offer the same medicine at a lower price. Also look into buying your medicine in larger quantities. Many health insurance plans will offer a three month supply of medications at a discounted rate.

Investigate a Health Savings Plan

By investing regularly in a Health Savings Plan, or HSA, you may be able to pay your medical costs with pre-tax dollars. Setting aside tax sheltered money to pay co-pays and prescription drug costs can save you thousands over the long haul.

Ask for Discounts

As simple as it sounds, you can sometimes save money just by asking. Doctors and hospitals aren’t above negotiating price, especially if you can offer cash payments. You have nothing to lose by asking.

Look for Free Medical Services

In the interest of public health, local and state governments often offer free services. These can take the form of vaccinations, cholesterol tests, mammograms, and other preventive health services.

Establish Good Health Habits
The first rule of keeping health insurance and medical costs low is to stay healthy. Make sure you eat the right foods, get plenty of rest, and regular exercise. And of course don’t smoke or use tobacco in any form. Avoiding tobacco often qualifies you for better rates automatically.

Group Health Insurance

Group Health Insurance is an option available to most companies both large and small.
Employers use Group Health Insurance to attract and keep quality employees, providing them with good medical care and peace of mind. The advantage of Group Health Insurance to both the company and the employee make it an attractive option in todays competitive business world.

For the employer Group Health Insurance is a benefit that aids in the recruiting and retention of talented workers. Most Group Health Insurance plans will be tax deductible, saving both the employer and employee money over the long term. For employees the benefits of Group Health Insurance will be lower costs, since risk is spread out over the group, and greater coverage for every dollar spent. Many employers also choose to add additional coverage to their plans, including dental, eye care, life insurance, and disability insurance.

What is Group Health Insurance?

Group Health Insurance is health coverage through a policy that insures a defined set of people. Rather than each person negotiating a health insurance policy on their own, coverage is combined into a single package of defined benefits. In order to qualify for Group Health Insurance a business can have as few as two full time employees, In general, the larger the group the more risk is spread and the more reasonable the cost.

Why Offer Group Health Insurance to Employees?

Employees are what make a business. In order to bring in and keep top level employees, businesses must be an attractive place to build a career. Prospective employees rate Health Insurance high on their list of benefits. In many cases, Group Health Insurance,
subsidized by the employer, is the only way to provide medical coverage for their families. Lower costs, increased coverage, and the pooling of risk make Group Health Insurance a great option for both workers and the organization.
